1. Bulb Sunday Service, 18th February

The Bulb Sunday Service will be held in St James’ Church this Sunday, 18th February at 3.00pm. The service will be conducted by Revd Claire Lording. Tea and cake will be available in Birlingham Village Hall afterwards.

Meanwhile, visitors to the churchyard bulbs can enjoy tea, coffee and homemade cakes in the Village Hall between 11.00am and 4.00pm each Saturday and Sunday until 25th February.

2. March Hare Charity Quiz, Saturday 10th March

There will be a March Hare Charity Quiz on Saturday 10th March in Birlingham Village Hall, 7.15pm for 7.30pm. Teams should be 4-6 people but those who would like to take part but are not in a team are also very welcome – a team can be found for you!

Local MP Harriet Baldwin (Minister for Africa at the F&CO) hopes, subject to ministerial duties, to be present for some of the evening.

The quiz is being held to raise money for blind and partially sighted children in a special unit attached to Mtandi Primary school, southern Tanzania. The children in the unit lead very impoverished lives and the resources of the school are minimal. Specialist equipment is practically non-existent.

The cost is £8pp to include a Fish & Chip Supper (gluten free/vegetarian option available). There will be a bar and raffle. Tickets are available from Steve Arbery, Tel: 01386 750877.

3. Village Litter Pick, Saturday 24th March

The annual litter pick will take place on Saturday 24th March. Please save this date and join us if you can. We should be able to complete the litter pick in an hour if sufficient people turn up.

Meet on the village green at 10.00am. Litter-picking equipment is provided.

4. Black Country Evening, Saturday 14th April

After more than twelve months waiting to find a gap in their bookings, St James’ Church PCC have managed to secure the duo known as ‘Dandy’ for a Black Country Evening. The comedy of this husband and wife team is based upon observation of life and is coupled with popular songs. Tickets are priced at £15 per head and include food prepared by Marion New. Please bring your own drinks of choice.

The venue is Birlingham Village Hall and the date is Saturday 14th April at 7:30 pm. Please contact Adrianne Woodward on 01386 750936 for tickets.

5. Adoption of Birlingham Village Design Statement

The Birlingham Village Design Statement was adopted as a Local Information Source at the meeting of Wychavon District Council’s Executive Board on Wednesday 7th February 2018. This now means it has a material weight, albeit limited, in helping to determine planning applications and can be used additionally by the Parish Council in responding to planning application consultation.

The Village Design Statement is available online at www.birlingham.org/parishcouncil/vds/vds_2017.pdf.
