In the run-up to the Flower and Produce Show, a number of packeted and labelled plant and veg seeds have been placed in the phone box to encourage a seed exchange.

A lot of summer annuals have now gone to seed, so this is the perfect time to collect and share what you have, and maybe try something new for next year.

The Swan Inn's 21st Beer Festival will be held on the weekend of Friday 13th to Sunday 15th September. Featuring over 20 beers and 10 ciders, the festival is open all day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Food will be served every day.

Live music will be provided by The Midland Regulators on the Friday night and Second Crossing on the Saturday.

Birlingham Cricket Club had planned to hold a dinner dance on Saturday 14th September but this will not now go ahead. It became evident at the end of a long season that the support for such an event amongst the playing members was not sufficient to cover costs.

Apologies to those villagers who had expressed enthusiasm for the dinner dance. The Club committee will consider something similar earlier in the season in 2014.

5. Parish Council Meeting, 18th September – New Homes Bonus

At the next Parish Council meeting on Wednesday 18th September, the Council will be making a final decision on the request for this year’s New Homes Bonus (amounting to £460) to be used by Birlingham Village Hall for the purchase of a commercial microwave.

The Council is required by Wychavon District Council to consult the parish before the decision is made, so we would like to hear whether you support this use of the funds. Please send your comments to news@birlingham.org.
