The
trees for the Jubilee Wood have now been received from the Woodland Trust
.
The Birlingham Jubilee Wood will be planted on Saturday 17th November,
continuing on Sunday 18th November if necessary, starting at 10.00am. If you can
spare an hour or more on either of these days and would like to take part in
this historic occasion, please e-mail Steve Morris at smorris@butford.co.uk or phone David Kew
on 01386 750423.
The
Trust pack contains 420 saplings, which have been selected to provide year-round
colour. Species in the pack are rowan, hawthorn, hazel, silver birch, wild cherry
and dogwood. There is also an oak sapling from the royal
estates.

The
Swan Inn will be holding two French-themed evenings on Thursday 15th and Friday

The deadline for the County Council’s broadband survey has
been extended. The aim of the survey is to demonstrate that there is a need for
improved broadband speeds locally, so it is important that as many people as
possible take part.

The
Gallery section of the village website now contains photographs of some of the
Jubilee activities, along with pictures from other recent events. More photos
will be added over the next few days. To view the photographs, go to
www.birlingham.org/village/gallery.
If
you have any photos from the Jubilee or other events this year, or photographs
of the village that you would like to share, please e-mail them to
news@birlingham.org. We would also be
pleased to receive older photographs of the village or events from earlier
years.

A number of people in the village have expressed an interest
in forming a Short Mat Bowls Club based in the Village Hall. Edward Farrar has
spoken to a contact at the Defford Short Mat Bowls Club and would be happy to
pass on information to anyone who may be interested in starting a club in
Birlingham. The Defford Club have four sessions each week and are Members of the
